Lime is the fruit of an evergreen plant that belongs to the citrus family. Lemon and Lime are typically substituted for one another, due to their uncanny similarities in flavor and nutritional content. It should be noted that they are not exactly identical, however, as Limes contain a higher sugar content and are typically more acidic than Lemons.
Did you know?
- In the 1800’s, Limes, along with Lemons, were used by British sailors to prevent scurvy, a disease caused by a deficiency in Vitamin C. You know what they say!
“A Lime a day keeps the scurvy at bay!” - Although there are many varieties of Limes on the market, the most commonly sold is the Persian Lime.
