Bananas are native to the tropical regions of Southeast Asia, and are likely to have been first domesticated in Papua New Guinea. Today, Bananas are frequently grown and harvested in subtropical regions such as Mexico, Costa Rica, Guatemala, and Ecuador. The Cavendish Banana is currently the most marketed banana in the globe.
Did you know?
- There are approximately 1000 different varieties of Banana plants in the world, but not all of them taste very good! Despite the large selection, there is currently no good substitute for the Cavendish Banana.
- The Banana Plant is technically an “arborescent” herb (not a tree, as most might believe), and the actual fruit is classified as a berry.
